Clinical Data Engineer – Application Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop new solutions for clinical data warehousing, including data transformations and integration assets.

• Facilitate modifications, upgrades, and the upkeep of current clinical data assets.

• Create and implement ETL pipelines for the extraction, transformation, and loading of clinical data from diverse sources.

• Establish data quality controls to validate, monitor, and sustain the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of clinical data.

• Design, develop, test, and deploy custom clinical data models for the OHSU Caboodle Data Warehouse.

• Collaborate with BI architects, developers, analysts, practice managers, data scientists, quality analysts, and other stakeholders.

• Construct and publish data models, ETL processes, Lakehouses, Warehouses, Notebooks, and metadata utilizing Epic Caboodle Console and third-party ETL tools.

• Create secure data feeds using SSIS or comparable tools.

• Document the content of the warehouse in the Caboodle Console and Analytics Marketplace, including definitions and lineage to Epic Clarity.

• Address ETL failures, data anomalies, and warehouse challenges; resolve or escalate issues while maintaining communication on status.

• Suggest enhancements to ETL processes, tool sets, data models, and monitoring methodologies.

• Deploy warehouse content through approved Azure DevOps systems while adhering to SDLC practices.

• Oversee assigned projects, including timelines, risks, milestones, and status updates.

• Respond to and manage Jira Service Desk issues, collecting customer information and facilitating resolution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field with six years of relevant experience in information technology, or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare settings; OR an Associate’s degree with seven years of relevant experience; OR eight years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• At least two years of experience as an Application Engineer or Developer focusing on data warehouse objects and ETL data integration solutions.

• Minimum of three years of experience with SQL Server, including SSIS and T-SQL coding, performance tuning, and system optimization.

• At least five years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL.

• A minimum of two years of experience in a medallion architecture data warehouse environment.

• One year of experience with Microsoft Fabric using OneLake and Data Engineering tools.

• One year of experience with Python or PySpark.

• Understanding of data warehousing architecture and dimensional modeling principles.

• Familiarity with data validation and testing methods for ETL processes.

• Knowledge of data governance and cataloging practices.

• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to manage competing priorities and provide regular updates on progress with meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficiency in documenting system technical artifacts in sufficient detail for ongoing production support.

• Epic Clarity Data Model Certifications and Epic Caboodle Developer Certification to be obtained within six months of hire.

• Microsoft DP-700 Fabric Data Engineer certification to be achieved within nine months of hire.

• Preferred: experience with Epic Clarity and Caboodle data models, project planning and management, HIPAA and PHI compliance, and Microsoft DP-700 certification.
