Software Engineer, AI & Application Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +19 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop modular, responsive web applications utilizing React and/or Vue.js in accordance with accessibility and user experience best practices.

• Design and create secure, scalable APIs using TypeScript, ASP.NET Core, or Java with the Spring Framework.

• Integrate enterprise systems through SOAP and RESTful APIs, ensuring robust error handling.

• Implement authentication, authorization, and secure configurations following client agency security policies.

• Enhance database access and performance with SQL Server and Entity Framework Core.

• Introduce observability through structured logging, metrics, and tracing; support incident response with well-defined runbooks.

• Design and develop AI agents and applications powered by LLM to automate and improve retirement data workflows.

• Build, assess, and maintain machine learning models for classification, prediction, and anomaly detection.

• Integrate LLMs into production systems via prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic frameworks.

• Create and sustain data pipelines that ingest, validate, and transform large volumes of structured and unstructured data.

• Adopt explainable AI practices within a regulated, auditable government environment.

• Monitor model performance and manage the ML lifecycle utilizing tools such as MLflow.

• Engage in Agile ceremonies, perform code reviews, and contribute to release planning and documentation.

• Collaborate with technical and policy teams to translate business needs into dependable, AI-driven solutions.

• Maintain version control, CI/CD, testing, and peer reviews across application and AI workflows.

• Develop a retirement benefits management system for federal government employees.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a full-time resident of the contiguous United States.

• Legally authorized to work in the US now and in the future without any sponsorship.

• Ability to successfully pass a Public Trust background check and any relevant background and/or security checks associated with project requirements.

• Proficient in React, Vue.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, ASP.NET Core, and Java (Spring Framework).

• Strong SQL skills with experience in SQL Server, along with familiarity with Entity Framework Core.

• Experience in enterprise integrations, including message queues, database RPC, REST, and SOAP APIs.

• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and security best practices.

• Practical experience in building or deploying LLM-based solutions, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, or open-source models.

• Familiarity with agentic AI patterns, such as tool use, planning, memory, and multi-step reasoning.

• Experience with RAG pipelines, vector databases, and embedding-based retrieval.

• Experience with coding agents, including CoPilot or Claude Code.

• Skilled in effective prompt engineering and evaluating LLM outputs for reliability and accuracy.

• 5+ years of experience in building applications using open-source programming languages (preferred).

• 5+ years of experience with modern frameworks, libraries, or runtimes (preferred).

• 5+ years of experience working with various types of APIs and databases (preferred).

• 5+ years of experience with infrastructure tools and Infrastructure as Code (preferred).

• Experience developing software in a remote setting (preferred).

• Experience in digital services, federal government, or federal government contracting sectors (preferred).
