Software Development Manager – Institutional Transfers

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Manage a team of software developers

• Define the technical direction, delivery strategy, and culture for Institutional Transfers

• Develop and nurture a high-performing, inclusive team through recruitment, coaching, feedback, career growth, and performance management

• Establish technical direction and roadmap in collaboration with Product and Design

• Ensure the transfer platform and operational tools are scalable and reliable

• Collaborate with Operations and CX to automate manual tasks and enhance transfer accuracy, transparency, and speed

• Innovate new methods for clients to transfer accounts to Wealthsimple

• Advocate for engineering practices such as design, code review, testing, observability, documentation, on-call duties, and incident response

• Promote AI-first development tools

• Work with engineering and related teams to address dependencies and achieve end-to-end results

• Stay updated with industry best practices and standards

• Report to an Engineering Director

• Oversee systems that manage thousands of account transfers daily

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing and developing software engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, providing feedback, and managing performance

• Technical expertise in production software development and distributed systems

• Experience in delivering dependable products in partnership with cross-functional teams within complex or regulated environments

• Solid understanding of modern backend and frontend systems, relational databases (SQL), event-driven architectures, and cloud infrastructure

• Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Dedication to inclusive leadership, operational excellence, and ongoing improvement

• Comfort in supporting a team through on-call responsibilities and system maintenance

• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React or React Native, GraphQL, Kafka, Temporal, Kubernetes, AWS, Datadog, or Sentry

• Background in Java, Kotlin, Python, or mobile development

• Experience in fintech, banking, brokerage, or systems that manage sensitive financial data

• Knowledge of institutional transfer frameworks such as ATON or Fundserv

• Legally authorized to work in Canada
