Software Development Engineer II – Full Stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Develop and maintain backend production services utilizing Python and Node.js/NestJS.

• Design, construct, and manage REST APIs along with integrations for both internal and external systems.

• Operate with PostgreSQL in a production environment, which includes schema design, complex queries, indexing, connection management, and performance optimization.

• Create and support asynchronous workflows by employing message queues and distributed system patterns.

• Implement caching strategies across both application and data layers, with a focus on cache invalidation and performance trade-offs.

• Guide features and integrations through the entire software development lifecycle, encompassing development, testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and iteration.

• Containerize and deploy services using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Oversee production systems utilizing logs, dashboards, metrics, and various observability tools to assess reliability, throughput, and performance.

• Identify and resolve production issues, including failures across APIs, integrations, queues, databases, and multi-service workflows.

• Contribute to secure development practices, including authentication, authorization, secrets management, and safeguarding against common application vulnerabilities.

• Collaborate closely with senior engineers on technical design and architectural decisions while progressively taking on more responsibility.

• Spot opportunities to enhance code quality, reliability, performance, engineering processes, and system design beyond merely completing assigned tasks.

• Work in conjunction with Engineering, Security, Customer Success, Product, and other teams as our platform continues to grow.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience in building and operating production software.

• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

• Production experience with Python and Node.js/NestJS, demonstrating strong expertise in at least one and working familiarity with the other.

• Proven experience in developing production-grade APIs, microservices, or backend systems and managing them through deployment and ongoing operation.

• Solid SQL fundamentals and hands-on experience with relational databases, including complex queries, indexing, schema design, and performance troubleshooting in a production setting.

• Experience in designing and maintaining REST APIs, not just consuming them.

• Background in integrating with external systems and understanding real-world challenges such as retries, duplicate processing, failure handling, and dealing with unreliable dependencies.

• Knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including asynchronous processing, message queues, retries, consistency, and failure recovery.

• Understanding of caching, including what to cache, optimal caching locations, and the management of invalidation.

• Experience with message queues or asynchronous processing technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, or similar.

• Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies.

• Experience with Azure or another major cloud provider, including deployment and debugging using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Proficiency with Git and modern code review processes.

• Knowledge of secure coding principles, including authentication and authorization, secrets management, injection risks, and data exposure.

• Experience working with production systems beyond just coding, including monitoring metrics, analyzing performance, responding to failures, and improving systems post-incident.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, capable of documenting decisions, explaining trade-offs, composing clear PRs and design notes, and flagging blockers promptly.

• A collaborative and inquisitive mindset, willing to share ideas, seek clarification, accept feedback, and engage across component boundaries when necessary.
