Sleep Medicine Physician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a broad range of sleep disorders and associated medical issues that may lead to or exacerbate sleep conditions.

• Provide direct patient care as directed by the VHA, including both synchronous clinic visits and asynchronous services such as interpreting sleep studies, conducting electronic consultations, and offering remote therapeutic monitoring.

• Conduct initial patient appointments within 60 minutes and follow-up visits within 30 minutes.

• Administer mandatory suicide screenings specific to the setting for new patients.

• Implement sleepiness and insomnia assessments as needed.

• Evaluate patients, including performing necessary physical examinations.

• Order relevant tests and ensure their completion.

• Track test status and completion, review results, and discuss management strategies with patients.

• Record all patient interactions within the electronic health record and independently document notes.

• Complete EHR entries within the timeframe mandated by the VA facility, generally within 24 hours.

• Coordinate with Veteran providers concerning sleep testing, follow-ups, and management plans.

• Work effectively within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep team.

• Communicate and document ordered test results to patients and providers within 14 days of result availability, or sooner if clinically necessary.

• Monitor the status of ordered tests and address scheduler inquiries and requests for order modifications.

• Maintain board certification, fulfill CME obligations, and operate within the scope of privileges.

• Available to work Monday–Friday, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional weekend shifts; appointment schedules may vary based on the needs of the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis, without the need for sponsorship.

• Graduate of an accredited medical school with an MD or DO degree.

• Possession of a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

• Preferred state licenses include Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California.

• Previous experience with the VA is advantageous.

• Completion of credentialing and onboarding processes consistent with VA medical staff requirements.
