Sleep Medicine Physician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide support to the Veteran community as a Sleep Medicine Physician.

• Oversee comprehensive management of sleep disorders and associated medical conditions that may cause or exacerbate sleep issues.

• Deliver direct patient care as needed by the VHA, which includes synchronous clinics, asynchronous sleep study evaluations, electronic consultations, and remote therapeutic monitoring.

• Conduct new patient consultations within 60 minutes and follow-up visits within 30 minutes.

• Perform mandatory suicide screenings specific to the setting for new patients.

• Administer sleepiness and insomnia assessments when applicable.

• Assess patients, including conducting physical examinations as required.

• Order relevant tests and ensure their completion.

• Track test status and completion, analyze results, and discuss management strategies with patients.

• Record all patient interactions in the electronic health record; independently document notes.

• Finalize EHR entries within the timeframe set by the VA facility, typically within 24 hours following the clinical encounter.

• Liaise with Veterans’ healthcare providers regarding sleep testing, follow-ups, and management strategies.

• Operate within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep team.

• Document and convey test results to patients and providers within 14 days of result availability, or sooner if clinically warranted.

• Monitor the completion of ordered tests and address scheduler inquiries and requests for order modifications.

• Maintain board certification, fulfill CME obligations, and practice within the scope of privileges.

• Work Monday to Friday, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional weekends; appointment times may vary based on the needs of the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

⛳️ Requirements

• Permanent authorization to work in the U.S., without the need for sponsorship.

• Graduate of an accredited medical school holding an MD or DO degree.

• Possession of a current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

• Preference for state licenses from Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California.

• Previous experience with the VA is advantageous.

• Candidates are required to complete credentialing and onboarding processes in line with VA medical staff protocols.
