Sleep Medicine Physician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Oversee a wide range of sleep disorders and associated medical conditions that may lead to or worsen sleep issues.

• Provide direct patient care as requested by VHA, which includes synchronous clinics, asynchronous sleep study assessments, electronic consultations, and remote therapeutic monitoring.

• Conduct initial patient appointments within 60 minutes and follow-up visits within 30 minutes.

• Carry out mandatory suicide screenings specific to the setting for new patients.

• Administer sleepiness and insomnia questionnaires as necessary.

• Assess patients, including conducting physical examinations when required.

• Order necessary tests and ensure their completion.

• Track the status of tests, review results, and discuss management strategies with patients.

• Record all patient interactions in the electronic health record and independently compose notes.

• Finalize EHR documentation within the timeframe set by the VA facility, typically within 24 hours.

• Liaise with Veteran providers regarding sleep testing, follow-up care, and management.

• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep care team.

• Communicate and document ordered test results to patients and providers within 14 days of availability, or sooner if clinically necessary.

• Monitor the completion of ordered tests and address scheduler inquiries and order modification requests.

• Maintain board certification, fulfill CME obligations, and operate within the scope of privileges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.

• Graduate from an accredited medical school holding an MD or DO degree.

• Possess a current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

• Preferred state licenses include Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California.

• Previous experience with the VA is advantageous.

• Completion of credentialing and onboarding processes consistent with VA medical staff requirements.
