This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +3 more countries.
β’ Review and assess assigned PDF annotation tasks
β’ Verify that pages are in Japanese, clear, contain legitimate content, and do not display any personal information
β’ Identify and delineate every significant page area, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and answer fields
β’ Allocate component types and establish reading-order indexes
β’ Connect areas to associated figures or tables using parent component identifiers
β’ Accurately transcribe all text as presented, including kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and handwritten material
β’ Mark any illegible source regions
β’ Document language, type of document, source, page dimensions, and flags for tables, formulas, and handwriting
β’ Conduct end-to-end reviews of colleagues' work as a proficient annotator
β’ Create human-authored structural maps and precise Japanese transcriptions for AI training data
β’ Ensure pages are correctly bounded, typed, sequenced, and transcribed prior to the second-expert review
β’ Native fluency in Japanese
β’ Comprehensive understanding of kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and various character forms
β’ Professional experience in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or similar document-heavy roles
β’ High level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
β’ Methodical application of a taxonomy across numerous pages
β’ Ability to handle vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten documents
β’ Experience in Japanese-language annotation, labeling, grading, bilingual evaluation, transcription, localization, MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, post-editing, typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, or digitization is preferred
β’ Familiarity with Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width and half-width forms, and kanji variant management is preferred
β’ Must be capable of working as an independent contractor
