Sleep Medicine Physician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee a wide range of sleep disorders and associated medical conditions that may lead to or exacerbate sleep issues.

• Provide direct patient care as directed by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

• Deliver synchronous care in clinical settings and asynchronous care, which includes interpreting sleep studies, conducting electronic consultations, and overseeing remote therapeutic monitoring.

• Conduct new patient visits within 60 minutes and follow-up appointments within 30 minutes.

• Perform mandatory suicide screenings specific to the setting for all new patients.

• Administer sleepiness and insomnia questionnaires when necessary.

• Assess patients and conduct physical examinations as required.

• Order necessary tests and ensure their completion.

• Track test status, review results, and discuss treatment plans with patients.

• Record all patient interactions in the electronic health record and write personal notes.

• Complete entries in the EHR within the timeframes mandated by the VA facility, typically within 24 hours.

• Liaise with Veterans’ providers concerning sleep testing, follow-up appointments, and management.

• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep team.

• Document and communicate the results of ordered tests to patients and providers within 14 days of availability, or sooner if clinically necessary.

• Monitor the completion of ordered tests and address inquiries from schedulers as well as requests for order modifications.

• Maintain board certification, fulfill continuing medical education (CME) requirements, and operate within the limits of privileges.

• Work Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional weekend shifts; appointment times may vary based on the needs of the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be authorized to work permanently in the U.S., without sponsorship.

• Graduate from an accredited medical school holding an MD or DO degree.

• Possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

• Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

• Preference for state licenses from Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California.

• Previous experience with the VA is considered an advantage.

• Completion of credentialing and onboarding processes consistent with VA medical staff requirements upon selection.
