Sleep Medicine Physician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +10 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee comprehensive management of sleep disorders and associated medical conditions that may cause or contribute to these disorders.

• Deliver direct patient care as required by the VHA.

• Provide synchronous care in clinic settings and/or asynchronous services, including sleep study interpretation, electronic consultations, and remote therapeutic monitoring.

• Conduct new patient appointments within 60 minutes and follow-up appointments within 30 minutes.

• Perform mandatory, setting-specific suicide screenings for new patients.

• Administer sleepiness and insomnia questionnaires as appropriate.

• Assess patients, including conducting physical examinations when necessary.

• Order necessary tests and ensure their completion.

• Monitor the status of tests, review results, and discuss management plans with patients.

• Record all patient interactions in the electronic health record and compose own notes.

• Complete EHR entries within the mandated timeframe established by the VA facility, typically within 24 hours.

• Communicate with Veteran providers regarding sleep testing, follow-up, and management strategies.

• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep team.

• Document and convey ordered test results to patients and providers within 14 days of their availability, or sooner if clinically warranted.

• Track the completion of ordered tests and respond to inquiries from schedulers and requests for order modifications.

• Maintain board certification, fulfill CME requirements, and practice within the scope of privileges.

• Work Monday to Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional weekends; appointment times may vary based on the needs of the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship.

• Graduate from an accredited medical school with an MD or DO degree.

• Hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

• Preferred state licenses include Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California.

• Previous experience with the VA is advantageous.

• Candidates must fulfill credentialing and onboarding requirements in accordance with VA medical staff procedures.
