Sleep Medicine Physician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +10 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee a wide range of sleep disorders and related medical issues that may cause or exacerbate sleep disorders.

• Provide direct patient care as needed by the VHA.

• Deliver synchronous care in clinics and/or asynchronous care, which includes sleep study interpretation, electronic consultations, and remote therapeutic monitoring.

• Conduct initial patient visits in 60 minutes or less and follow-up visits within 30 minutes.

• Perform mandatory, setting-specific suicide screenings for new patients.

• Administer sleepiness and insomnia questionnaires when applicable.

• Assess patients, including conducting physical examinations when required.

• Order necessary tests and ensure their completion.

• Monitor the status of tests, review results, and discuss management strategies with patients.

• Record all patient interactions in the electronic health record and independently type notes.

• Complete EHR documentation within the VA facility-mandated timeframe, usually within 24 hours.

• Collaborate with Veteran providers regarding sleep testing, follow-up, and management to ensure coordinated care.

• Operate as part of a multidisciplinary and interprofessional sleep team.

• Document and communicate test results to patients and providers within 14 days of the results becoming available, or sooner if clinically necessary.

• Track the completion of ordered tests and address scheduler inquiries and order-modification requests.

• Maintain board certification, fulfill CME requirements, and operate within the scope of privileges.

• Work Monday to Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with occasional weekend work; appointment times may vary based on the needs of the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System.

⛳️ Requirements

• Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship.

• Graduate from an accredited medical school holding an MD or DO degree.

• Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

• Preferred state licenses include Florida, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and California.

• Previous experience with the VA is advantageous.

• Completion of credentialing and onboarding procedures consistent with VA medical staff protocols.
