Senior WordPress Engineer, Elementor experience – Freelance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Assume technical responsibility for the operation, stability, and continuous enhancement of the large-scale WordPress platform.

• Guarantee performance, scalability, maintainability, clean structure, error-free operation, and overall stability.

• Oversee the architecture and organization of Custom Post Type (CPT)-based content systems.

• Construct and manage dynamic data models and fields.

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.

• Troubleshoot complex plugin and Elementor edge cases.

• Develop efficient, reusable templates and modules.

• Establish SEO-relevant structures at a technical level.

• Create and maintain batch and bulk-processing workflows.

• Integrate and oversee AI-based automations.

• Implement strategies for updates and deployments.

• Conduct monitoring, log analysis, and error tracking.

• Collaborate with SEO and content teams without the need for micromanagement.

• Document design choices and contribute to architectural decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience with WordPress in large-scale environments.

• Comprehensive understanding of WordPress as a system, thinking in terms of systems, data models, and architectures.

• Ability to identify why systems slow down and sustainably address root causes.

• Strong grasp of clean code practices and system structure.

• Organized and self-sufficient work style.

• Avoidance of agency-style overengineering and hasty solutions.

• Proficient in Elementor Pro, templates, Global Styles, and dynamic content.

• Familiarity with Custom Post Types and taxonomies.

• Experience with ACF (Advanced Custom Fields), dynamic fields, and query logic.

• Well-structured, clean, and maintainable PHP expertise.

• Knowledge of JavaScript/jQuery for extensions and fixes.

• Understanding of MySQL, the WP DB layer, and query optimization.

• Familiarity with caching strategies (object, page, fragment).

• Knowledge of Core Web Vitals and PageSpeed optimization.

• Experience with hosting environments, including staging, backups, and deployments.

• Experience in batch-processing large volumes of content.

• Nice to have: experience with extensive SEO projects.
