This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Design and tailor WordPress themes, website layouts, templates, and styles utilizing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
• Create custom WordPress plugins, extensions, and functionalities to meet distinct business and website needs.
• Develop responsive, user-friendly interfaces for various devices, including desktops, tablets, and mobiles.
• Collaborate with PHP, WordPress core functionalities, databases, APIs, and server-side logic.
• Enhance Core Web Vitals, page loading speeds, caching, database performance, and overall website efficiency.
• Apply technical and on-page SEO best practices.
• Perform security checks and audits; manage updates for WordPress core, themes, and plugins; troubleshoot issues; and ensure regular backups.
• Identify and rectify compatibility issues, broken functionalities, performance bottlenecks, and other technical challenges.
• Test websites and new functionalities across different browsers and devices prior to deployment.
• Maintain existing WordPress websites while enhancing functionality, performance, security, and user experience.
• Take ownership of WordPress projects from start to finish in collaboration with our expanding team.
• 4–5+ years of professional experience in WordPress development.
• In-depth knowledge of WordPress architecture, PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Demonstrated experience in building and customizing WordPress themes from the ground up.
• Practical experience in developing or modifying custom WordPress plugins.
• Solid understanding of MySQL/database management and back-end development.
• Experience with responsive and mobile-first web development approaches.
• Strong grasp of WordPress performance optimization, caching, and Core Web Vitals.
• Familiarity with technical SEO and SEO-friendly development techniques.
• Experience in implementing WordPress security best practices, updates, backups, and maintenance protocols.
• Knowledge of APIs and third-party integrations.
• Capability to diagnose and resolve intricate WordPress issues autonomously.
• Keen attention to detail and dedication to producing clean, maintainable code.
• Excellent skills in communication, organization, and problem-solving.
• Ability to work efficiently and independently in a remote setting.
