This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the technical and commercial advancement of new machine-glazed paper products utilizing BiOrigin’s five-step stage-gate framework.
• Guide initiatives from ideation and scoping to business case formulation, product creation, validation, scaling, launch, and subsequent performance evaluation.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among commercial, operations, mill technical teams, finance, sourcing, quality, and supply chain divisions.
• Conduct and sustain market analyses that encompass customer demands, competitive landscape, addressable market, pricing assumptions, channel compatibility, and strategic alignment.
• Establish and manage development cost budgets for trials, raw materials, coatings, waxing, converting, testing, packaging, qualification, customer validation, and commercialization activities.
• Collaborate with finance and commercial leadership to prepare business cases that include NPV, revenue, margin, capital needs, working capital, risks, and anticipated profit contributions.
• Specify technical product requirements and convert customer critical-to-quality (CTQ) needs into specifications, coating formulations, application methods, operational parameters, performance targets, trial plans, quality standards, and manufacturing readiness criteria.
• Coordinate mill trials, laboratory evaluations, customer validation, product verification, and corrective measures.
• Provide senior technical expertise during scaling, commercialization, and initial production phases.
• Monitor post-launch performance against approved business case assumptions and propose value-enhancement initiatives.
• Develop gate review documentation, decision criteria, risk assessments, timelines, project charters, and executive summaries.
• A Bachelor’s degree in paper science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, business, or a related technical discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in MG paper, specialty paper, food service packaging, flexible packaging, coatings, waxing, converting, or similar paper manufacturing settings.
• Proven leadership in new product development.
• Preferred hands-on experience with functional coating technologies, including barrier and oil- and grease-resistant (OGR) coatings.
• Proficiency in coating formulation, raw material selection, application techniques, process optimization, performance testing, and translating customer critical-to-quality (CTQ) needs into scalable product and manufacturing specifications.
• Comprehensive understanding of MG paper characteristics, fiber furnish, wet-end chemistry, surface properties, machine glazing, basis weight, caliper, strength, printability, converting, packaging, quality systems, and customer qualification requirements.
• Established ability to lead stage-gate or phase-gate new product development processes.
• Experience in developing business cases, including market sizing, pricing, cost modeling, capital assumptions, NPV, revenue predictions, margin expectations, and post-launch profitability tracking.
• Strong financial acumen.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
• Effective communication skills with executives, mill leadership, commercial teams, customers, suppliers, and technical personnel.
• Strong skills in project management, problem-solving, risk management, continuous improvement, analytics, organization, and results orientation.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• An advanced degree is preferred.
• Competitive salary range of $135,000–$175,000 annually.
