
Senior Tax - Sales, Use and Incentives

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
β’ Serve as the primary leader for sales and use tax compliance, planning, and dispute resolution activities.
β’ Keep track of indirect tax law modifications and evaluate their impact on the business.
β’ Discover opportunities for tax optimization, risk mitigation, and refund recovery.
β’ Assist in remediation, disputes, corrective filings, technology upgrades, and process enhancement initiatives related to indirect tax.
β’ Oversee projects involving sales and use tax exemptions and incentives connected to data center operations and various state credit programs.
β’ Identify qualifying company activities, compile and assess supporting documentation, and aid in claims and filings.
β’ Prepare and assess calculations, tax documents, memoranda, executive summaries, and audit response assistance.
β’ Track legislative and regulatory changes and discover new incentives or process enhancements.
β’ Define and implement project deliverables, monitor project status, and report on tax initiatives.
β’ Foster relationships across Infrastructure, Finance, Legal, and business teams.
β’ Coordinate workstreams and offer guidance across teams.
β’ Investigate business operations to customize tax strategies.
β’ Convey opportunities and risks to internal stakeholders.
β’ Act as a liaison with external tax advisors and state and local authorities.
β’ Report directly to the Director of Indirect Tax.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
β’ Over 3 years of experience in sales and use tax.
β’ Proficient in sales and use tax compliance, planning, or dispute resolution.
β’ Experience in preparing technical analyses, credit calculations, tax documents, memoranda, executive summaries, or audit response materials.
β’ Strong technical expertise in sales/use tax and credits & incentives domains.
β’ Capability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
β’ Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
β’ Keen attention to detail and quality in work output.
β’ Ability to lead projects or workstreams and manage various priorities in a fast-paced setting.
β’ Strong influencing skills and the confidence to question established processes.
β’ Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships.
β’ Proficient in complex problem-solving and critical thinking.
β’ Preferred experience in public accounting or equivalent fields.
β’ Experience with state and local credits and incentives programs is preferred.
β’ Familiarity with tax research tools (CCH, Hein, Lexis, or RIA) is preferred.
β’ Experience in data center tax incentives is preferred.
β’ Preferred qualifications include being a licensed CPA (or CPA-eligible), licensed attorney, or enrolled agent.
