This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Review and prepare accounting documents, workpapers, and tax returns, which include partnership, S corporation, C corporation, trust, and individual (1040) returns.
• Manage relationships with clients, including those with multiple entities (up to 100+).
• Engage directly with clients and create customized solutions to meet their needs.
• Supervise and mentor staff, aiding in their technical development.
• Utilize advanced knowledge in multi-state tax issues, 1031 exchanges, 163(j) limitations, QBI deductions, 704(b) target allocation rules, allocation of non-recourse debt, 754 step-ups, and cost segregation studies.
• Conduct tax planning and oversee special projects that require analysis, judgment, and innovative thinking.
• Occasionally assist in the preparation of complex real estate partnership returns when necessary, primarily focusing on review.
• Manage federal and state tax audits and provide assistance with tax controversy matters.
• Maintain expertise in multi-state tax and foreign compliance regulations.
• Aid in the preparation of firm memos and technical documentation.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and changes in tax law.
• Foster staff development through organized training programs.
• Lead and implement various tax-related projects as they arise.
• A college degree in accounting or a related field is mandatory.
• Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is essential.
• A minimum of 8–12 years of experience in public accounting is required.
• Strong accounting knowledge and the ability to apply accounting principles to intricate tax returns are necessary.
• Experience with client-supplied, tax return-ready books and records is required; no remedial bookkeeping.
• Proven experience in training, managing, and mentoring teams.
• Familiarity with partnership tax matters, including 704(b) capital accounts, 1031 exchanges, 754 elections, Section 163(j), 199A, and Pass-Through Entity Tax (PTET) is crucial.
• Experience in multi-state tax is a necessity.
• Proficiency in Excel and experience in a paperless office environment are vital.
• Familiarity with Lacerte, QuickBooks, and CCH Engagement is beneficial.
• Experience with trusts, estate tax returns, and/or private foundations is preferred but not required.
• International tax experience is an advantage.
