This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Oversee compliance, planning, and dispute resolution for sales and use tax.
• Stay updated on changes in indirect tax legislation and assess their impact on the business.
• Discover opportunities for tax optimization, minimizing exposure, and recovering refunds.
• Assist in resolving indirect tax issues, managing controversies, submitting corrective filings, transforming technology, and enhancing processes.
• Handle sales and use tax exemptions and incentives pertaining to data center operations and other state credit initiatives.
• Identify qualifying company activities, review supporting documentation, and provide assistance with claims and submissions.
• Prepare and scrutinize calculations, tax documents, memoranda, executive summaries, and support for audit responses.
• Keep track of legislative and regulatory changes and identify new incentives or opportunities for process enhancements.
• Define and implement deliverables, monitor project progress, and report on tax initiatives.
• Foster relationships across Infrastructure, Finance, Legal, and business teams.
• Coordinate workflows and offer guidance to various teams.
• Investigate business operations to customize tax strategies.
• Inform internal stakeholders about opportunities and risks.
• Collaborate with tax advisors and state and local authorities.
• Report directly to the Director of Indirect Tax.
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
• More than 3 years of experience in sales and use tax.
• Background in sales and use tax compliance, planning, or dispute work.
• Experience in preparing technical analyses, credit calculations, tax documents, memoranda, executive summaries, or materials for audit responses.
• Strong technical expertise in sales/use tax and credits & incentives areas.
• Capability to work independently while also functioning collaboratively within a team.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of attention to detail and quality in work output.
• Ability to lead projects or workstreams and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Strong influencing abilities with the confidence to challenge existing processes.
• Proficiency in building and maintaining professional relationships.
• Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Experience in public accounting or a similar field is preferred.
• Familiarity with state and local credits and incentives programs is preferred.
• Experience with tax research tools (CCH, Hein, Lexis, or RIA) is preferred.
• Background in data center tax incentives is preferred.
• CPA license, CPA eligibility, licensed attorney, or Enrolled Agent status is preferred.
