Senior System Safety Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute system safety programs that comply with MIL-STD-882E, along with performing related tasks, analyses, and planning.

• Carry out hazard and design analyses to confirm adherence to system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.

• Collaborate with customer safety representatives to clarify system requirements and distribute them among software, hardware, and testing personnel.

• Coordinate with customer safety representatives and Safety Review Board authorities to obtain safety approvals.

• Lead System Safety Working Groups that involve Raytheon and customer representatives.

• Work in conjunction with integrated product teams and various engineering disciplines to mitigate hazards or implement effective controls.

• Collaborate across different disciplines to gain insights into product architecture and design.

• Support safety initiatives from the program's inception through production, demilitarization, and disposal stages.

• Present safety considerations and program status during technical reviews and approval sessions.

• Create internal and customer-facing reports that detail system safety analyses and the current status of the program.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) along with at least 5 years of relevant experience.

• Background in System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering.

• Proficiency in writing technical reports and delivering presentations.

• Familiarity with the Patriot Air Defense System.

• Experience with Safety and Validation processes.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Preferred experience in developing and executing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses.

• Preferred experience with Department of Defense System Safety Programs such as MIL-STD-882 / DO-178.

• Preferred experience in reviewing software code and requirements for safety considerations.

• An active and transferable DoD security clearance is preferred.
