This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Assess system and program requirements to pinpoint relevant safety standards and establish Design Assurance Levels (DALs) for System, Software, Firmware, and Hardware.
• Create, evaluate, and authorize Product Safety Program Plans along with associated system safety documentation.
• Conduct and supervise safety analyses such as FHA, FMEA, FTA, SSA, CCA, and CMA.
• Establish and convey safety requirements along with appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Drive safety engineering initiatives utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering practices.
• Collaborate with systems and design engineering teams to recognize hazards and formulate design mitigations.
• Liaise with software, firmware, hardware, verification, and testing teams.
• Create test plans and procedures that support safety requirements and risk reduction efforts.
• Aid safety activities throughout the product lifecycle, from the requirements phase and architecture to production.
• Prepare and present technical materials related to safety during design reviews, Technical Review Boards (TRRs), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), working groups, and customer safety evaluations.
• Lead interdisciplinary teams in identifying hazards, assessing risks, and developing mitigation strategies.
• Assist in the formulation and implementation of product safety strategies for complex, safety-critical airborne systems.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience in system/product safety.
• At least 5 years of experience in system safety, product safety, aerospace systems engineering, or a similar safety-critical engineering field.
• Experience in supporting airborne or aircraft systems in a safety-sensitive development setting.
• Proficient understanding of MIL-STD-882, ARP4754, and ARP4761 standards.
• Practical experience with FHA, FMEA, FTA, SSA, CCA, and CMA safety analyses.
• Ability to develop, interpret, and communicate system and product safety requirements effectively.
• Knowledge of domestic and international regulations, standards, and development processes relevant to safety-critical airborne systems.
• Experience in interpreting and implementing contractual product/system safety requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
• Capability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through hazard identification, risk evaluation, and mitigation activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for articulating complex technical and safety concepts.
