This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +2 more states.
• Act as a technical authority overseeing the complete range of protective relay settings and coordination studies.
• Organize, schedule, and manage the detailed phases of assigned project tasks.
• Conduct short-circuit and symmetrical component analyses.
• Design and refine relay settings and coordination methodologies.
• Develop protective schemes for transmission, distribution, generation, and renewable energy initiatives.
• Formulate and implement testing plans.
• Provide assistance during the commissioning process.
• Diagnose issues with protection system events.
• Ensure adherence to NERC PRC reporting and compliance with industry regulations.
• Mentor and work collaboratively with engineers.
• Leverage evolving technology and AI tools to improve workflows and address challenges.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) is mandatory.
• A PE License is required.
• At least 10 years of pertinent engineering experience is essential.
• Proficiency in system modeling and fault analysis software including ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, and EasyPower.
• In-depth understanding of relay coordination and protective settings for systems ranging from 12.47 kV to 345 kV; knowledge of 500 kV/765 kV systems is an advantage.
• Familiarity with NERC PRC standards is necessary.
• On-site commissioning and relay testing experience is preferred.
• Membership in the IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee is a plus.
• Capability to review and generate one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of SCADA, communication systems, substation equipment, and NEC standards.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% annually.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
