Senior Symfony Engineer – PHP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take charge of backend development within the primary Symfony application.

• Aim for complete independence in delivering results within 2–3 months of joining.

• Review and critically evaluate code produced by the team and AI tools.

• Assist in the migration from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7.

• Address versioning, compatibility, and legacy challenges.

• Enhance application performance, scalability, and maintainability.

• Engage with Angular, TypeScript, and Python-based AI agent services.

• Work alongside DevOps when backend modifications impact other system areas.

• Grasp Angular/TypeScript code despite the primarily backend-focused role.

• Evaluate the broader implications of technical choices across Symfony, Angular, and AI services.

• Identify root causes and optimize existing strategies.

• Provide maintainable solutions within a legacy codebase.

• Operate independently while collaborating with a remote, cross-functional team.

• Adhere to SOC 2, PII, and security standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of commercial software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in PHP.

• More than 7 years of expert-level PHP development experience.

• At least 3 years of recent commercial experience with Symfony 6.x/7 at an advanced level.

• Strong senior-level Laravel experience may be considered if clearly transferable.

• Over 4 years of advanced experience in backend architecture, system design, and scalability.

• At least 2 years of advanced experience using AI development tools with a critical approach.

• More than 5 years of advanced MySQL experience, including database schema design and query optimization.

• Equivalent experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases may be taken into account.

• A minimum of 1 year of experience with Angular/TypeScript or similar front-end exposure.

• Over 3 years of advanced experience with automated testing using PHPUnit.

• At least 1 year of experience with framework upgrades and modernizing legacy codebases.

• More than 2 years of intermediate AWS experience.

• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work UK hours.

• Capability to undergo strict background checks.

• Compliance with PII and data protection standards.

• Ability to operate independently after 2–3 months.

• Hands-on engineering approach combined with an architectural perspective.
