This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead and assist in the design projects for substation protection and control systems.
• Take ownership of intricate protection and control designs for systems ranging from 12–500 kV.
• Utilize advanced expertise in digital logic as well as AC/DC circuits.
• Generate and enhance relay one-line diagrams that outline protection zones and system topology.
• Create detailed AC schematics that illustrate relationships between current, voltage, and protection devices.
• Produce DC control and protection schematics.
• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and overall physical layouts.
• Compile bills of materials in accordance with project specifications, equipment standards, and client needs.
• Conduct quality-control evaluations on wiring and schematic designs.
• Engage in all phases from initial scoping to final design, implementation, and support during energization.
• Offer technical guidance throughout installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
• Adhere to National Electrical Safety Code standards.
• Interpret and apply utility-specific regulations.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD technicians to produce comprehensive drawing packages.
• Ensure compliance with project scope, timeline, budget, quality control, and safety practices.
• A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field, along with a minimum of eight (8+) years of experience in substation protection control design.
• Proven experience in leading and executing substation protection and control projects.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with both internal teams and clients.
• Capacity to meet deadlines while remaining organized in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.
• Effectiveness in a team setting with the capability to provide leadership as necessary.
• Self-motivated individual who can take initiative and work with minimal oversight.
• Strong analytical skills and engineering problem-solving capabilities.
• High level of computer proficiency and familiarity with engineering tools and software.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations when required.
• Candidates should reside in Canada.
• Ability and readiness to travel to customer sites in the United States as necessary.
• Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification (additional qualification).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license (additional qualification).
• A Master’s degree in a related area (additional qualification).
• Experience in field testing/commissioning (additional qualification).
