Senior Standards Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +17 more states.

📋 Description

• Serve as the company's technical representative in internet standards working groups that the CTO is unable to attend.

• Monitor related drafts and mailing-list communications, highlighting significant developments.

• Update specifications and address review feedback.

• Create supporting documentation to facilitate the progression of drafts through standards procedures.

• Develop reference implementations, interoperability tests, and demonstrations.

• Build lasting technical credibility with participants in the standards community.

• Assume authorship of secondary drafts as reputation is established.

• Attend sessions on behalf of the CTO and prepare summaries.

• Provide detailed, timely feedback on draft review comments.

• Create working implementations that support specification claims.

• Actively exemplify and advocate for Identity Digital’s core values.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Report directly to the CTO, Innovation Labs.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5 to 8 years of practical experience in protocol or infrastructure engineering.

• Current involvement in a standards community, working group, or significant open-source project is highly regarded.

• Familiarity with identity infrastructure, including OAuth, OpenID Connect, PKI, DNS, Verifiable Credentials, or similar protocols.

• Proven ability to write clearly and effectively under scrutiny.

• Composure to advocate for a technical position among more senior participants and the discernment to know when to concede.

• Comfort transitioning between engineers, open source communities, and enterprise or government technical audiences.

• Ability to act as a delegate and accurately represent another individual’s technical stance.

• Commitment to sustained, long-term contributions.

• Willingness to travel as necessary.

• Capability to work across time zones as part of a global organization when required.

• Ability to sit for extended periods at a desk and work on a computer.

• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.

• Completion of a satisfactory background check is required as a condition of an offer.
