Senior Staff Software Engineer – Rendering & Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver senior technical guidance for the design and execution of Arc XP's next-generation rendering platform.

• Collaborate with architects, engineering leaders, product managers, and senior engineers to convert the Experience Composition strategy into scalable production systems.

• Direct technical strategy across edge rendering and composition, render-on-update architectures, component and extension models, platform and compilation APIs, content delivery, performance, and AI-driven experience creation.

• Spearhead the technical design and execution of advanced rendering and Experience Composition features.

• Architect edge-rendering and edge-composition frameworks, including component-level and server-island patterns.

• Oversee the transition from TTL-driven regeneration to event-driven render-on-update models.

• Create scalable platform, rendering, and compilation APIs while evolving component and extension architectures.

• Develop platform capabilities and APIs that enable AI systems and agents to create, compose, and update pages, templates, and components.

• Establish migration and interoperability strategies for Rendering, Themes, and PageBuilder capabilities, ensuring customer continuity.

• Offer senior technical leadership across Rendering, Delivery, Themes, and the PageBuilder Editor.

• Design, develop, and manage scalable services utilizing TypeScript, Node.js, React, Go, AWS, and contemporary edge technologies.

• Resolve complex production and architectural challenges and enhance reliability, observability, performance, security, and cost-efficiency.

• Mentor engineers through architectural discussions, design critiques, and collaborative efforts.

• Employ AI-assisted engineering tools for prototyping, implementation, and troubleshooting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in designing, building, and operating highly scalable software systems.

• Extensive experience in providing technical leadership, establishing technical direction, and designing architecture for complex projects that span multiple systems or teams.

• Profound knowledge of modern web rendering architectures, distributed and event-driven systems, APIs, caching and content delivery, and cloud-native application design.

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks such as React, Astro, Next.js, or similar technologies.

• Background in designing and managing high-traffic systems where performance, scalability, availability, and reliability are paramount.

• Proven ability to convert vague product and platform strategies into technical designs and actionable engineering plans.

• Experience in designing platform APIs, frameworks, or extensibility models.

• Demonstrable experience leading architectural initiatives through hands-on implementation and delivery in production environments.

• Track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without formal management authority.

• A BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.

• Extensive experience in modern rendering and content delivery architectures, including server-side rendering, static generation, dynamic rendering, hydration, caching and invalidation, and rendering trade-offs.

• Familiarity with CDN and edge-computing platforms such as Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly, CloudFront, or similar technologies.

• Experience with edge runtimes like Cloudflare Workers, Akamai EdgeWorkers, Fastly Compute, or Lambda@Edge.

• Understanding of Astro, server islands, islands architecture, partial hydration, edge composition or stitching, event-driven regeneration, render-on-update patterns, and modern component architectures.

• Experience in designing developer platforms, rendering frameworks, compilation or build systems, component frameworks, or extensible SaaS platforms.

• Proven experience evolving large-scale production systems while ensuring customer continuity.

• Familiarity with AWS, observability and distributed tracing, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and production operations.

• Experience designing APIs or platform capabilities that can be consumed programmatically by AI systems or agents.

• Comfortable utilizing AI-assisted engineering tools for prototyping, implementation, testing, documentation, code review, and troubleshooting.
