Senior Staff Software Engineer – Native Mobile

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical vision for the future of Coinbase's native application development.

• Spearhead the AI-assisted migration strategy utilizing agent swarms, automated dual-repository synchronization, and automated feedback mechanisms.

• Design a paved-road native framework in Swift and Kotlin for both iOS and Android platforms.

• Empower mobile contributors to efficiently collaborate across the iOS and Android codebases.

• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering leadership to ensure organizational preparedness.

• Address cross-team obstacles and mitigate conflicts during the dual-app transition process.

• Hold peer leaders accountable to elevated architectural benchmarks.

• Mentor L5–L6 engineers and cultivate the native mobile technical leadership pipeline.

• Attract talent through a strong professional reputation.

• Establish mobile engineering best practices and promote teamwork within Coinbase's mobile community.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in software engineering.

• Extensive expertise in native mobile development for iOS or Android (Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android).

• Strong working knowledge of the alternative mobile platform.

• Proven experience working within both own and adjacent team codebases.

• History of owning outcomes that span 2–3+ teams with significant business impact.

• Experience with large-scale multi-phase platform migrations or rewrites.

• In-depth mobile performance expertise across both iOS and Android, focusing on cold start optimization, frame stability, scroll jank reduction, and device-tier profiling.

• Experience in setting architectural standards and defining ownership boundaries.

• Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority at senior levels.

• Experience in shifting the technical direction of teams outside one’s own.

• Proven track record of securing leadership alignment on ambiguous, high-stakes decisions.

• Experience in resolving cross-team obstacles effectively.

• Experience in designing AI-native engineering workflows that are adopted across teams.

• Familiarity with LLM-driven code generation, agent-based automation, or reusable automation patterns.

• Responsible utilization of generative AI with human oversight, achieving measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
