Senior Staff Engineer – Senior Data Modeler

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with data stewards to gather, verify, and certify data definitions.

• Map data resources across Finance, Commercial, HR, Marketing, and various business sectors.

• Enhance metadata intake processes using Excel and Python while identifying automation prospects.

• Lead definition workshops with domain owners and business stakeholders.

• Propose business definitions, metric descriptions, calculation logic, ownership assignments, stewardship duties, and related terminology.

• Follow up with stakeholders to ensure progress across different domains.

• Resolve terminology discrepancies across domains.

• Clean and validate metadata inputs prior to uploading to Unity Catalog.

• Upload approved definitions into Unity Catalog and confirm their accuracy, searchability, discoverability, and usability.

• Maintain a centralized business glossary and metadata repository.

• Establish governance standards, approval workflows, certification processes, and lifecycle management practices.

• Identify and catalog data assets, including tables, columns/fields, reports, dashboards, KPIs, and metrics.

• Analyze the relationships among data assets and business concepts.

• Review metadata submissions for thoroughness and accuracy.

• Assist with metadata audits, remediation efforts, and ongoing lifecycle management.

• Develop user guides, SOPs, process documentation, handover documentation, and conduct training for operational teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 7 years of relevant experience.

• Proven experience in data stewardship.

• Familiarity with Databricks.

• Knowledge of Databricks Data Governance.

• Experience with Unity Catalog.

• Strong Python skills (desirable).

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

• Experience with Power BI/Tableau (preferred).

• Familiarity with Azure Data Platform (preferred).

• Experience with Jira/Confluence.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Ability to collaborate with data stewards, business owners, domain experts, and stakeholders.

• Capability to facilitate definition workshops and build consensus on standardized terminology.

• Skill in documenting business definitions, metrics, KPIs, critical data elements, and metadata governance processes.
