Senior Staff Engineer, Open Source Server

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take the lead in designing and implementing key server features from the proposal stage to rollout.

• Assist in establishing the technical direction for one or more segments of the Open Source Server team.

• Address distributed systems challenges related to task matching, scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, quotas, throttling, persistence, developer primitives, and workflow lifecycle features.

• Evaluate practical trade-offs among reliability, performance, operability, product requirements, and open source usability.

• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, cloud teams, and customer-facing teams to create clear technical plans.

• Enhance server development and operations through improved testing, observability, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and documentation.

• Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and support sound technical decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in building and operating production-level distributed systems.

• Proven technical leadership experience, including leading design initiatives, aligning engineers, and steering complex projects to completion.

• Strong foundational knowledge in distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, scheduling, and performance optimization.

• Practical experience with Go, Java, or a comparable backend programming language.

• Experience with high-scale or performance-critical systems.

• Strong operational instincts, encompassing reliability, observability, debugging, incident response, and system operability.

• Experience in designing APIs, primitives, or platform features utilized by other developers.

• Familiarity with open source systems or communities.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP is advantageous.

• Knowledge of Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, or MySQL is a plus.

• Experience with Kubernetes controllers, CRDs, KEDA, or Argo is an added benefit.
