Senior Staff Engineer, Guest & Host – Host Listings, Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the long-term technical strategy and roadmap for the Listings and Quality backend.

• Engage the team and stakeholders in the technical strategy.

• Collaborate with AI Platform, Trust, Infrastructure, and Product teams.

• Define how the architecture of Listings and Quality integrates with the broader Airbnb ecosystem.

• Create platform contracts among teams.

• Design APIs, data models, and data provenance for AI-assisted features and agents.

• Drive platformization, simplification, and self-service initiatives.

• Generalize shared capabilities and streamline duplicated systems.

• Empower product teams to operate within established guardrails.

• Enhance reliability and engineering practices.

• Minimize operational load on systems critical to business processes.

• Engage in hands-on development, including design and code reviews.

• Mentor and support the professional development of individual contributors.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of relevant experience in the technology sector.

• More than 4 years of experience in an Architect or Staff Engineer position.

• Responsible for ownership of large-scale software systems.

• Strong judgment in product and platform considerations.

• Proven ability to establish a multi-year technical vision for a core platform and execute it incrementally.

• Extensive backend expertise in distributed systems, data modeling, and API design for large-scale, mission-critical platforms.

• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or comparable programming languages.

• Experience in designing APIs and data systems for AI-assisted features and agents, emphasizing data provenance, validation, and guardrails.

• Exceptional engineering skills coupled with a strong operational focus.

• History of enhancing reliability and lowering operational burdens on critical systems.

• Strong communication and influence across organizations and platform teams, including AI/ML platforms.

• Capability to establish platform contracts, align stakeholders, and mentor senior and staff engineers.
