Senior Staff Engineer – AI Innovation Lead, Elixir, Ruby, Flutter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the technical health and strategic direction of SmartLogic’s engineering division.

• Establish technical standards, pinpoint gaps, and spearhead engineering enhancements.

• Drive organization-wide AI integration through a formalized AI skill development plan.

• Assess AI tools and practices while guiding the team on the responsible use of AI.

• Collaborate with the COO to facilitate technical 1:1s and guide the company's technical vision.

• Oversee sales architecture, ensuring consistency in quoting, estimating, and solution architecture.

• Provide hands-on leadership for CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, environment configuration, monitoring, and production operations.

• Design, review, and support scalable and secure cloud and server architectures, primarily utilizing AWS and Azure.

• Relay project updates, challenges, and resource requirements to the COO, Operations Manager, and Project Managers.

• Co-manage delivery projects alongside Project Managers to ensure they are completed on budget and on time.

• Support teams consisting of 2 to 6 developers, designers, and QA analysts.

• Maintain Product Requirements Documents, backlogs, and technical direction.

• Organize sprints that align with project objectives.

• Collaborate with sales and consulting leadership on technical discovery, solution architecture, and estimates.

• Act as a technical authority on assigned projects, including QA and PR reviews.

• Report directly to the COO without having direct HR or supervisory responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in modern software development methodologies and technologies, creating custom software for diverse clients.

• Proven technical leadership through architecture, mentorship, and influencing engineering practices without depending on direct management authority.

• More than 7 years of experience with Ruby on Rails, Elixir, and Phoenix.

• Strong preference for experience with Flutter and/or React Native.

• At least 5 years of experience in DevOps practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, deployment, and tools.

• A minimum of 3 years working in a consultancy, rather than solely in product-based companies.

• Advanced, hands-on experience with contemporary AI-assisted development tools and agentic coding workflows within a production codebase.

• Capability to utilize AI responsibly in production software development, including validating AI-generated code and managing security, privacy, and quality risks.

• Experience in evaluating AI tools and practices, establishing repeatable team workflows, standards, or internal tooling/playbooks.

• Proficient in coaching other engineers on effective AI utilization.

• Experience in measuring the impact of AI adoption on delivery speed or engineering quality.

• Participation in technical discovery, solution design, and estimation for client-facing and sales prospect projects.

• A successful track record of coaching or developing fellow engineers.

• Comfort in establishing technical standards for senior engineers.

• Ability to set and manage expectations with teammates, project managers, and leadership.
