Senior Staff Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee a varied portfolio of insurance defense cases from their initiation to trial or other resolutions.

• Assess substantive and procedural matters while conducting legal research.

• Formulate well-founded defense strategies.

• Prepare and respond to pleadings, written discovery, dispositive motions, and briefs with minimal oversight.

• Conduct and defend depositions.

• Collaborate with experts and prepare witnesses for their testimonies.

• Represent clients in trials, judicial hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.

• Offer practical legal counsel and evaluations of liability and damages to Claims and insured partners.

• Engage with courts, opposing counsel, witnesses, and co-counsel.

• Facilitate prompt and efficient case resolutions while ensuring quality and customer service.

• Collaborate closely with Claims partners and provide direct advice to insured clients.

• Manage assigned files by establishing strategies, assessing exposure, and driving resolutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a recognized law school.

• Active legal license to practice in Washington State.

• Ability to appear in relevant local state and federal courts.

• Good standing member of the appropriate Bar Association.

• A minimum of 7 years of pertinent litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense and complex tort cases.

• Documented experience as first-chair in jury trials and/or appellate cases is preferred.

• Excellent legal writing, research, and persuasive advocacy abilities.

• Capable of independently managing a caseload, prioritizing competing deadlines, and exercising sound judgment.

• Target caseload includes 50 files.

• Strong familiarity with the courts and local practices in Washington and Oregon.

• Highly organized and adept at working in a technology-driven setting.

• Applicants must reside in Western Washington or Northwest Oregon.

• Willingness to quickly apply for and secure admission in Oregon and/or Idaho.

• Ability to travel occasionally and make appearances throughout Washington, Oregon, and/or Idaho; expected travel is less than 5%.
