Senior SQL DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the main point of contact for crucial database issues during US business hours, troubleshooting and resolving performance, reliability, and availability challenges.

• Collaborate with developers to design, review, and enhance SQL queries, stored procedures, and database logic.

• Mentor the team on best practices for performance optimization.

• Proactively oversee the health of databases across client environments.

• Establish alerting thresholds, runbooks, and dashboards to detect risks prior to incidents.

• Manage the readiness of the database-side test environment, including syncing test databases and validating configurations.

• Develop automation to minimize manual setup tasks.

• Review and approve pull requests related to database changes.

• Uphold coding standards and assess changes for performance, risk, and backward compatibility.

• Conduct backups, patching, and capacity planning during business hours.

• Document recurring issues, their resolutions, and operational procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience as a DBA, with substantial real production support experience — not just development-side database work.

• Proficient in SQL Server / T-SQL, including skills in query optimization and execution plan analysis.

• Comfortable working in highly customized, multi-instance environments rather than a single standardized database.

• Genuine enthusiasm for both reactive incident response and proactive, collaborative development support.

• Familiarity with Azure and .NET/ORM is a plus.

• Availability primarily during CST hours; EST candidates will also be considered.
