Senior Software Systems Engineer – Autonomous Vehicles

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, and maintain effective processes for the evaluation and validation of autonomous-vehicle software.

• Take ownership of the complete execution and enhance evaluation methodologies for GM’s comprehensive machine-learning stack.

• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers, simulation engineers, systems engineers, and data partners to identify, analyze, monitor, and prioritize performance indicators.

• Utilize simulation and on-road data to establish scalable processes for assessing coverage, metrics, uncertainty, and validation confidence.

• Define processes for AV evaluation and validation, including test-framework requirements, scenario and test-suite design, coverage, metrics, and confidence evidence.

• Develop and implement scalable testing and simulation frameworks for test generation, execution, data collection, result aggregation, and reproducible analysis.

• Create infrastructure and data solutions to evaluate AV performance confidence using both simulation and on-road data.

• Assess simulation validity, sim-to-real correlation, and the predictive accuracy of simulation outcomes.

• Identify metrics, sampling techniques, and analytical methods to enhance evaluation workflows and close evidence gaps.

• Contribute to automated triage and root-cause analysis for AV deficiencies, regressions, and uncertainties.

• Convey insights, summaries, limitations, and recommendations to engineers, technical leaders, and stakeholders.

• Define and uphold scalable processes for identifying, monitoring, and improving evaluation KPIs and confidence measures.

• Link continuous improvement initiatives to evidence that supports safety, systems, and downstream readiness decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Python programming, with experience in developing clear and maintainable analysis, evaluation, or testing tools.

• Experience in designing or implementing testing, simulation, or evaluation frameworks for complex software/hardware or cyber-physical systems.

• Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, or equivalent project management tools.

• Proven end-to-end ownership, from problem definition to delivering and communicating the desired outcomes.

• Analytical and systems engineering experience with complex software/hardware systems or ambiguous AI functionalities.

• Experience in conducting root-cause analysis and applying analytical methods to system or behavioral performance data.

• Ability to creatively solve problems with minimal supervision, learn swiftly, and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong cross-functional communication skills, including the capability to present data-driven insights to leadership.

• Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Bonus: familiarity with autonomous vehicles, ADAS, robotics, or production-grade robotic systems.

• Bonus: practical experience with simulation environments, scenario generation, large-scale test execution, or analysis of simulation outcomes.
