Senior Software Engineer, Web Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of significant areas within the Unity Web runtime, overseeing the process from design to release.

• Conduct research, design, and implement enhancements to the Web build target, which includes removing unused code and progressively loading assets.

• Enhance download size, loading speed, and startup performance for Web builds while establishing measurable goals.

• Address low-level issues across C++, C#, and JavaScript, including introducing multi-threading capabilities to currently single-threaded runtime components.

• Collaborate with various teams across Unity that utilize the Web platform, translating their requirements into platform improvements.

• Mentor colleagues and assist in establishing code quality standards throughout the team.

• Ensure Unity remains at the forefront of the Web's advancing capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, hands-on expertise in C++ within performance-sensitive contexts.

• Development experience with WebAssembly, utilizing Emscripten and/or LLVM.

• Capacity to break down complex technical challenges and resolve them using your own technical insights.

• Proficient in profiling, debugging, and optimizing across both native and browser environments.

• Working knowledge of C# and JavaScript.

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with peers, managers, and key decision-makers from other teams.

• Established history of mentoring engineers and enhancing code quality standards.

• Adequate English proficiency for professional verbal and written communication.

• Experience contributing to a browser engine or browser runtime.

• In-depth domain knowledge of rendering, physics, or audio within a real-time 3D engine.

• Familiarity with compression techniques and strategies for reducing build size.
