Senior Software Engineer – Tech Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical architecture for the ScreamingFace squad, overseeing the entire process from design to deployment.

• Create the internet's inaugural leaderboard for fusion models along with an open toolkit that supports benchmark evaluations.

• Ensure production readiness by implementing deployment monitoring, error management, graceful degradation, and operational runbooks.

• Establish and guide best engineering practices focusing on modularity, security, reliability, scalability, code quality, and production delivery.

• Collaborate on the strategy for the core technology stack through architectural reviews and the identification of shared organizational primitives.

• Define standard interfaces to prevent tight coupling among components.

• Work alongside the product lead to formulate and implement realistic, scalable, and architecturally sound roadmaps.

• Manage the delivery of engineering’s quarterly objectives while effectively overseeing resources.

• Take responsibility for team output, delivery, productivity, timeliness, morale, and overall success.

• Advocate for high-quality software delivery through the use of tools, processes, methodologies, individual contributions, and code reviews.

• Develop technical documentation and processes that support high velocity and facilitate knowledge transfer.

• Report directly to Kevin McDonough, Head of Engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven history of building, shipping, and operating production systems at significant scale.

• Hands-on experience developing production software using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) and assisting a team in managing their agentic workflows.

• Strong proficiency in Python (3.12+) including experience with FastAPI services, asynchronous orchestration of concurrent model calls, typed SDK design and packaging, and familiarity with parsers, ASTs, and DAG execution.

• Experience in distributed systems and API design, including the creation and evolution of interfaces utilized by multiple independent teams.

• Proven technical leadership experience in promoting engineering quality practices such as code review, testing, and CI/CD.

• Demonstrated experience mentoring or managing at least two engineers.

• Ability to work comfortably in ambiguous situations and under resource constraints.

• Display commitment, accountability, and ownership in all tasks.

• Fluent in asynchronous communication with strong written skills and the capacity to establish high-trust working relationships across time zones of 6 hours or more.

• Experience in cross-functional collaboration and communication with both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

• Preferred: Practical experience with RAG and information retrieval, including vector databases, retrieval pipelines, embedding strategies, and aggregation.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Vue 3 / TypeScript, Rust / Tauri, or cross-platform desktop application development.

• Preferred: Experience in Networking or P2P applications.
