Senior Software Engineer – Search Algorithms, Elasticsearch

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Romania.

📋 Description

• Spearhead initiatives within Elasticsearch to create a leading search engine solution characterized by speed and relevance.

• Develop new search functionalities and resolve bugs in Elasticsearch.

• Enhance code clarity and maintainability.

• Create or implement algorithms and data structures.

• Engage closely with the operating system and hardware as necessary.

• Collaborate with a globally distributed team dedicated to Elasticsearch vector search capabilities.

• Propel advancements in the search relevance of Elasticsearch.

• Work with members of the global community on issues and pull requests, including triage and handoff processes.

• Write idiomatic and modern Java code.

• Contribute to the technical direction and vision for search capabilities, encompassing the design and implementation of features and enhancements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven professional experience with search or vector databases.

• Experience utilizing HNSW, IVF, or other pertinent algorithms and libraries on search platforms at scale.

• Strong proficiency in core Java.

• Familiarity with data structures from the Java standard library, concurrency constructs, and lambdas.

• Capability to manage projects from inception to completion, including technical design and component development.

• Experience in collaborative development and providing and receiving feedback on code, methodologies, and APIs.

• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.

• Demonstrated ability to leverage AI for accelerating development, debugging complex systems, and optimizing code while taking ownership of final outcomes.

• Proficient in collaborating across functions and teams, with the ability to transition between projects, codebases, or teams.

• Ability to work independently and drive decisions and outcomes within a distributed team through asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication.
