
Senior Software Engineer, Scientific Computing β Hardware/Sensors

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
β’ Design, implement, and sustain essential scientific computing libraries for mineral exploration analysis.
β’ Incorporate third-party and domain-specific tools into unified, repeatable workflows.
β’ Create tools for swift Jupyter notebook prototyping, experimentation, evaluation, simulation, scalable ML pipelines, and organized model repetition.
β’ Troubleshoot issues across third-party binaries, undocumented formats, external code, and deployed instrumentation.
β’ Apply and mentor best engineering practices, including the development of robust, testable, and composable code.
β’ Collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists, and engineers to enhance KoBold's scientific computing framework.
β’ Travel occasionally to exploration sites to assess product impact and design technologies that facilitate mineral discovery.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of experience in a software engineering, data science, or ML engineering role.
β’ Experience handling a variety of distinct technical challenges.
β’ Proven history of developing production-quality data processing solutions or tools that have provided business value.
β’ Strong understanding of foundational ML concepts, encompassing statistical, traditional, and deep learning methodologies.
β’ Proficient in Python, preferably with experience in xarray and NumPy.
β’ Familiarity with physical-world data, including measurements, outputs from scientific instruments, imagery, or geophysical data.
β’ Experience in visualizing scientific data for domain experts.
β’ Practical experience with hardware, flight, space, laboratory instrumentation, or field-deployed systems.
β’ Capability to work with complex geology and mineral exploration domains, utilizing limited, disparate, and noisy data sources.
β’ Ability to collaborate effectively with data scientists, geoscientists, software engineers, and operations stakeholders.
β’ Competence in managing large projects and independently prioritizing various tasks.
β’ Skill in communicating technical challenges and solutions to non-software domain experts.
β’ Enthusiasm for joining a rapidly growing early-stage company and thriving in a dynamic environment.
β’ Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States or Canada.
β’ Opportunities for occasional travel to exploration sites worldwide, approximately twice a year based on project requirements.
