Senior Software Engineer, Query Engine, Database Internals, Elasticsearch

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop new features for Elasticsearch that require extensive data handling and address bugs.

• Investigate and apply appropriate data structures and algorithms.

• Engage closely with the operating system and hardware as necessary.

• Partner with engineers from around the globe on search functionalities and ES|QL analytics.

• Collaborate with UI teams to ensure an optimal user experience.

• Work with teams creating solutions utilizing Elasticsearch APIs.

• Attain expertise in various aspects of Elasticsearch and enhance them.

• Collaborate with international community members on issues and pull requests, including triage and resolution.

• Write modern Java code that adheres to idiomatic standards.

• Dedicate full-time efforts to Elasticsearch while enhancing code clarity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in core Java, including standard-library data structures, concurrency constructs, and recent features like lambdas.

• Experience in software systems engineering.

• Strong motivation to optimize and utilize efficient data structures and algorithms.

• Capability to work independently and steer projects from inception to completion, encompassing technical design and collaboration with engineers.

• Experience in collaborative development and providing feedback on code, methodologies, and APIs.

• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

• Proven experience in leveraging AI to expedite development, debug complex systems, and enhance code ownership outcomes.

• Ability to collaborate across various functions and teams, transitioning between projects, codebases, or teams based on business needs.

• Competence in driving decisions and delivering results in a distributed team through clear, direct, and asynchronous communication.
