Senior Software Engineer, Query

📋 Description

• Develop AI-centric solutions by utilizing AI as the foundational approach to tackling engineering challenges.

• Take ownership of the ClickHouse-based storage infrastructure and enhance its reliability.

• Create schemas tailored for both established and developing access patterns.

• Optimize ingestion and query performance to handle production-scale data effectively.

• Design and manage the ingestion process from event streams and robust Temporal workflows.

• Ensure data integrity during transit, maintaining queryability and not hindering critical-path services.

• Advance the platform to be the preferred method for historical queries.

• Develop indexing, caching, and tiered storage solutions to boost performance.

• Facilitate design discussions, document architectural decisions, and prioritize data-domain migration tasks.

• Utilize Honeycomb, Datadog, and Rollbar for monitoring ingestion delays, query response times, and data accuracy.

• Navigate ambiguous data challenges from conceptualization to production.

• Address immediate issues while improving underlying team practices, processes, or systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Regularly utilize AI tools and be able to articulate their impact on engineering methodologies, including their limitations.

• Proven experience in developing or managing data-heavy systems, ingestion pipelines, event-driven architectures, or analytical and time-series data stores.

• Comprehension of the trade-offs between transactional and analytical storage solutions.

• Proficiency in designing schemas and optimizing queries for high-volume data operations.

• Familiarity with ClickHouse or similar columnar databases is highly advantageous.

• Strong proficiency in Go, or strong skills in a comparable programming language with a readiness to work in Go.

• Competence in Go interface design, data modeling, service integration, and concurrency handling.

• Knowledge of React and TypeScript is a plus.

• Understanding of delivery guarantees, idempotency, backpressure, and recovery from failures.

• Experience in leading the design of intricate systems and making intentional trade-offs.

• Background in enhancing quality through reviews, mentoring, and providing direct feedback.

• Over 5 years of experience in building and maintaining production backend systems.

• Experience in serving real users while prioritizing latency, reliability, and correctness as key design elements.
