Senior Software Engineer, Open Source Server

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and deploy features for the Temporal server.

• Address challenges in distributed systems related to task matching, scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, quotas, throttling, persistence, developer primitives, and workflow lifecycle aspects.

• Make informed engineering decisions considering developer experience, performance, and maintainability.

• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, cloud teams, and customer-facing teams to create scalable technical solutions.

• Enhance server reliability and operability through testing, observability, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and documentation.

• Engage in design discussions and conduct code reviews.

• Elevate the developer experience for both open-source users and enterprise clients.

• Guide junior engineers and disseminate knowledge among team members.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building and managing production-level distributed systems.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, scheduling, and performance optimization.

• Solid foundation in computer science principles, including multi-threading and concurrency.

• Proficient in writing concurrent production code using Go, Java, or other relevant programming languages.

• Experience in developing high-scale or performance-sensitive backend services.

• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and operational expertise focused on reliability and observability.

• Proven experience in designing and building backend APIs or platform services.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering teams and engage in technical discussions.

• Familiarity with open source software or communities is advantageous.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is beneficial.

• Knowledge of Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, or MySQL is a plus.

• Experience with Kubernetes, CRDs, KEDA, or Argo is a plus.
