Senior Software Engineer – Native Mobile

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Become a member of Coinbase’s App Infra team within the Consumer & Business division.

• Implement a complete rewrite of Coinbase’s retail mobile application from React Native to native Swift and Kotlin.

• Take ownership of the development of essential app components in Swift and Kotlin.

• Convert React Native workflows into efficient native solutions.

• Establish project-wide quality benchmarks through code and design evaluations.

• Work within an AI-assisted code generation framework.

• Validate architectural choices, identify edge cases, and guarantee high-quality production outputs.

• Define architectural patterns and enhance build speeds and development processes.

• Collaborate with product teams that are transitioning to the native codebase.

• Review native pull requests and challenge inefficient coding practices.

• Optimize performance issues including slow paths, unreliable tests, deployment processes, and handoffs between native and React Native.

• Lead performance enhancements across various device categories, particularly low-end Android devices.

• Design solutions through trade-off analysis to remove loading indicators, scrolling jank, and stall occurrences.

• Contribute to the dual-app parity strategy during the transition phase.

• Identify and address significant technical debt.

• Ensure synchronization of features and bug fixes between different codebases.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of mobile software engineering experience on iOS or Android platforms.

• Experience with Swift/iOS or Kotlin/Android.

• Proven capability to develop and deliver high-performing mobile applications.

• Emphasis on frame stability, cold start optimization, and responsive user interface across a variety of devices.

• Proficient in Swift or Kotlin, with a working understanding of the other language.

• Eagerness to develop cross-platform expertise and take responsibility for both iOS and Android.

• Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release protocols.

• A history of achieving project-level results.

• Responsible use of generative AI with appropriate human oversight.
