Senior Software Engineer, Media Creation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the backend architecture for Reddit’s media creation tools.

• Develop infrastructure for capturing, editing, and publishing video and image content.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams.

• Create fast, maintainable APIs that integrate with frontend clients for real-time creator experiences.

• Contribute to the technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch processes.

• Engage with a team of engineers.

• Enhance developer workflows and suggest engineering best practices.

• Mentor junior engineers.

• Balance the pace of development with product quality and reliability.

• Develop entirely new products and features that support Reddit’s global media product strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a comparable technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 3 years of industry experience in large-scale distributed systems.

• More than 5 years of hands-on, professional software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (such as Go, Python, Ruby, Java, C++).

• Proficiency with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, Thrift basics, and designing and implementing maintainable APIs.

• Experience with distributed caching layers and large-scale distributed data storage systems like Redis.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on time.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fully remote setting.

• Experience in translating complex user workflows into robust backend state management.

• Background in building asynchronous media processing pipelines and scalable event-driven microservices.

• Familiarity with background data fetching.

• Strong data analysis skills using SQL.

• Practical expertise with FFMPEG, GPAC, and similar media frameworks.
