Senior Software Engineer, Integrations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain integrations between UpDoc and external healthcare services, such as electronic health record (EHR) systems.

• Take ownership of integration projects from start to finish, encompassing technical discovery, scoping, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing upkeep.

• Create and execute dependable internal and external APIs utilizing modern, type-hinted Python.

• Build backend services using FastAPI and Pydantic.

• Engage with FHIR, HL7, and SMART on FHIR interoperability standards.

• Troubleshoot production integration challenges by analyzing API payloads, healthcare data resources, application logs, and system traces.

• Address authentication, data-mapping, data-quality, and interoperability issues.

• Design integrations to manage network failures, duplicate events, retries, incomplete source data, and other edge cases.

• Collaborate with hospital IT teams, implementation partners, healthcare vendors, and internal stakeholders to facilitate deployments.

• Contribute to UpDoc’s patient-facing conversational agent and backend services that support clinical AI workflows.

• Assist in constructing scalable, low-latency systems for conversational, voice, and multimodal experiences.

• Work alongside clinical experts to guarantee that services are accurate, reliable, safe, and trustworthy.

• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

• Contribute to DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, containerization, monitoring, and observability.

• Engage in code reviews, architecture discussions, technical planning, and production troubleshooting.

• Document integration architecture, implementation choices, operational procedures, and reusable patterns.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, privacy, security, and healthcare regulations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience, with substantial backend development experience.

• Strong professional expertise in modern, type-hinted Python.

• Experience in developing production APIs with FastAPI, Pydantic, or similar Python technologies.

• Proficient in designing and implementing RESTful APIs.

• Strong understanding of HTTP, networking, caching, database design, authentication, and distributed systems.

• Experience integrating with third-party APIs and services.

• Extensive knowledge of software testing methodologies and practices.

• Proven experience troubleshooting complex technical issues in production environments.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.

• Experience with containerized applications.

• Knowledge of DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and observability practices.

• Ability to develop reliable, maintainable systems in a safety-focused environment.

• Strong written communication skills and comfort in a distributed, async-first team setting.

• Demonstrated capacity for continuous learning, independent work, and ownership of projects from inception to completion.

• Interest in enhancing healthcare through thoughtfully designed and safe technology.

• Highly desired: experience integrating with Epic or other prominent EHR platforms.

• Highly desired: hands-on experience with FHIR, HL7 v2, SMART on FHIR, or related healthcare interoperability standards.
