Senior Software Engineer II – Solution Lifecycle

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and create scalable back-end services for Smartsheet's next-generation applications.

• Tackle intricate challenges in distributed systems alongside product management and key stakeholders.

• Build, maintain, and enhance Smartsheet's core infrastructure to ensure reliability, stability, and performance.

• Oversee and upgrade extensive database infrastructure and complex replication structures.

• Automate essential operations using AWS, Golang, MySQL, Terraform, Temporal, and GitLab-CI.

• Engage in collaborative activities such as mob programming, collective code ownership, code reviews, and architectural discussions.

• Implement Test-Driven Development to create robust foundational systems.

• Take part in team book clubs and facilitate psychologically safe retrospectives.

• Utilize AI tools in coding, testing, design, and troubleshooting; explore integrations and mentor others.

• Join a gradually increasing operational on-call rotation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience and expertise in at least one modern programming language.

• Experience with Go is advantageous, though not mandatory; backgrounds in Java, Kotlin, or Python are relevant.

• At least 3 years of experience with cloud technologies, such as AWS or Azure.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.

• Knowledge of database internals and reliability, especially MySQL.

• Over 8 years of software development experience in creating highly scalable and highly available applications.

• Experience in developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs.

• Comfortable or eager to work in a mob programming environment.

• Proven experience in writing test-driven code and sharing system ownership.

• Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills for complex technical issues.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.

• At least 1 year of professional experience using AI to enhance personal productivity in developing complex SaaS feature sets.

• A BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical industry experience.

• Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.
