Senior Software Engineer – Grading Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Utilize AI tools, preferably Claude, throughout software design, architecture, and implementation while ensuring delivered quality.

• Develop backend services, APIs, and data models for internal grading and authentication applications.

• Work with containerized .NET applications, serverless APIs, and Python background-processing tasks.

• Design and create high-volume event-driven and asynchronous systems.

• Create frontend features using JavaScript, TypeScript, and Vue.js.

• Collaborate with Product, Technology, and Operations teams to convert business requirements into technical designs.

• Diagnose data, integration, service, and UI challenges across a large codebase.

• Participate in an on-call rotation for services you own.

• Contribute to technical documentation and enhance maintainability, knowledge sharing, and team efficiency.

• Enhance system design, code quality, observability, and engineering practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience in building production applications, primarily with backend experience and some hands-on frontend exposure.

• At least 3 years of experience or strong proficiency in C# and .NET.

• Regular use of AI tools in software design and development, preferably Claude, with accountability for reviewing the results.

• Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and service integrations.

• Skilled in defining module boundaries and determining when functionalities should be separated into distinct services.

• Experience in writing and maintaining automated tests for production services.

• Strong foundational knowledge of relational databases and data modeling, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL.

• Practical experience in building and managing cloud production services, including Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, serverless compute behind an API gateway, and managed messaging and data storage.

• Proficient in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a component-based frontend framework.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation, and monitoring and observability platforms like CloudWatch or Datadog.

• Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to document work effectively.

• Experience in translating complex Product and Operations requirements into clean, extensible systems.

• Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
