Senior Software Engineer – Full Stack

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Independently develop and launch comprehensive product features, including the user interface.

• Collaborate across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI pipeline.

• Partner closely with the grant team to address real user challenges.

• Create interfaces with a focus on usability for grant writers.

• Take ownership of issues from initial discovery to production deployment.

• Enhance product, automation, and workflows to minimize the time from project initiation to application submission.

• Elevate AI capabilities through prompt engineering, context management, cost control, and multi-provider AI setups.

• Utilize AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, and OpenAI.

• Construct and manage AI pipelines in a production environment.

• Develop and oversee the AI evaluation practice, focusing on prompt quality, model selection, and regression detection.

• Engage with AI agents and tool-calling workflows as applicable.

• Employ AI-native development tools like Claude Code or Cursor.

• Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot the live production environment.

• Work with Sentry, CloudWatch, and Postgres for performance monitoring.

• Contribute to AWS infrastructure utilizing ECS and RDS.

• Maintain and enhance the reliability and performance of production systems.

• Identify and address technical issues in live environments.

• Influence technical architecture, code quality, engineering standards, and the technical roadmap.

• Assist in establishing engineering processes and technical benchmarks.

• Proactively seek improved technical solutions.

• Guide technical challenges to resolution.

• Contribute to the development of scalable technical foundations as one of the initial engineering hires.

⛳️ Requirements

• Multiple years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js.

• Strong expertise in Postgres, including JSONB, query performance, and migrations.

• Comprehensive full-stack skills, with experience in Next.js 15 / React Query, Express / BullMQ, AWS (ECS, RDS), and Terraform.

• Practical experience in building and operating AI pipelines in production, beyond simple AI API integration.

• Familiarity with LLMs and AI-driven applications.

• Strong grasp of prompt engineering, context management, model selection, and AI evaluation.

• Advanced debugging capabilities in live production systems.

• High degree of autonomy and ownership, with the ability to identify issues, create solutions, and follow through independently.

• Usability-first approach, with the aptitude to create interfaces that effectively serve end users.

• Comfortable working in an undefined environment where engineers are expected to proactively develop solutions.

• AI-native perspective on software development, with experience using tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.

• Proficiency in German at B1 level or higher (preferred).

• Experience with AI agents and tool-calling workflows in production (preferred).

• English CV required for application.
