Senior Software Engineer, Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop platform capabilities to enhance Magpie’s digital learning experiences.

• Create scalable backend services, front-end interfaces, data models, and data pipelines.

• Collaborate effectively with product managers, designers, and engineers on both new and existing features.

• Maintain a deep understanding of customer requirements and identify any friction points within the platform.

• Utilize KPIs, OKRs, North Star metrics, and empirical evidence to inform decision-making.

• Manage the development process from design through to production, while monitoring live system performance.

• Enhance the workflow from concept to production.

• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code.

• Develop and maintain APIs and integrate third-party services.

• Design and oversee data flows across databases, event-driven systems, analytics platforms, and downstream consumers.

• Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness.

• Engage in code reviews, testing, and debugging activities.

• Mentor engineers and aid in their professional development.

• Contribute to architectural design, technical standards, and best practices.

• Stay updated on emerging technologies and enhance development processes.

• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teammates and learn workflows during the initial 30 days.

• Take ownership of smaller features or components end-to-end by day 60.

• Help shape architecture, mentor colleagues, and influence long-term technical planning by day 90.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in full-stack engineering.

• Proven track record of building systems, establishing engineering standards, and defining technical direction.

• Experience in developing solutions for both internal stakeholders and external users, including authentication, onboarding, or enablement features.

• Proficiency in writing automated unit, integration, and/or end-to-end tests.

• Familiarity with data-intensive systems, including data pipelines, analytics infrastructure, event data, or data modeling.

• Experience in leading the design or delivery of impactful systems that enhanced outcomes.

• Background in startup or early-stage companies, preferably as a founding engineer.

• Strong sense of ownership and a practical approach to tools and technologies.

• Ability to explore alternatives and suggest enhancements.

• Knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

• Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Athena, ECS, S3, and dbt.

• Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases, including Postgres, Mongo, and Timestream.

• Familiarity with TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, and React.
