Data Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the architecture and technical implementation of an expanded healthcare and pharmacy benefit management data platform.

• Architect ingestion pipelines for X12 EDI formats (835, 837, 832, 810) and MTF files utilizing Azure Data Factory and Databricks.

• Design ingestion patterns based on FHIR, incorporating incremental synchronization, throttling, and retry mechanisms.

• Define canonical data models for referral data, clinical documents, and provider-administered drug information.

• Enhance the metadata-driven ingestion framework to accommodate new payload types without necessitating a redesign of the platform.

• Architect HL7 ADT / SIU linkage to support 340B eligibility determinations.

• Design the architecture for clinical document storage, indexing, and retrieval for CCD / C-CDA.

• Establish patterns for onboarding trading partners and configuring their settings.

• Guide the design of reporting and analytics data models for business intelligence purposes.

• Collaborate with client stakeholders and vendor teams regarding integration points.

• Work alongside client stakeholders and distributed delivery teams from the initial definition stage to final delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficiency in Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Spark-based data engineering.

• Experience with HL7 v2 (ADT, SIU) and FHIR, including resource modeling and terminology mapping.

• Proven experience in parsing and transforming X12 EDI.

• Strong background in API design.

• Knowledge of data platform and metadata-driven architecture patterns.

• Preferred experience in healthcare payer, PBM, or the pharmacy rebate sector.

• Familiarity with the 340B program is a plus.

• Preferred knowledge of HIE connectivity, including Carequality, CommonWell, and Direct Secure Messaging.

• Familiarity with HCPCS / J-Codes is preferred.

• Experience in patient matching and identity resolution is preferred.

• Expected to be comfortable using AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code during development.

• Ability to communicate clearly across functions with clients and distributed delivery teams.

• Strong ownership and prioritization skills across multiple concurrent workstreams.

• Ability to adapt to evolving and ambiguous project scopes.
