
Senior Software Engineer, Connectivity β API Transformation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
β’ Develop and enhance Pantheon's unified API, which includes a federated GraphQL supergraph and Go subgraphs that support the Dashboard and public API.
β’ Define service connectivity through VPC and network architecture, service discovery strategies, and internal traffic protocols.
β’ Break down a substantial legacy Python monolith into well-defined services and manage the Cassandra data layer, encompassing replication, backup, and disaster recovery.
β’ Design and manage workflow orchestration on a platform scale utilizing GCP Workflows, Pub/Sub-driven job execution, and Go services deployed on Cloud Run.
β’ Establish GraphQL, gRPC, and REST standards for other engineering teams while acting as a technical resource across the organization.
β’ Take ownership of production systems, monitor health metrics using SLOs, troubleshoot production issues, and balance the pace of delivery with reliability.
β’ Engage in on-call engineering duties and participate in alert response rotations.
β’ Enhance engineering quality through code reviews, design feedback, and mentorship opportunities.
β’ Extensive experience in building and managing production services using Go, with the flexibility to work in a polyglot codebase that includes Rust and Python.
β’ Proficiency in API design, including schema design, versioning, and maintaining backward compatibility; experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or REST at scale is essential.
β’ Relevant experience with large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems and the development of scalable, resilient services.
β’ Skill in extracting services from a monolith or incrementally evolving a legacy system while ensuring its continued operation.
β’ Working knowledge of cloud networking principles, including VPCs, DNS, load balancing, and service-to-service authentication.
β’ Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and release engineering practices.
β’ Experience with a major cloud provider; proficiency in GCP is particularly advantageous.
β’ Knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana Cloud, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
β’ Experience in supporting live sites and participating in on-call duties.
β’ Strong communication skills, enabling clear representation of contributions and ideas while remaining receptive to others' input.
