Senior Software Engineer – Card Network Integration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and implement scalable software solutions for both batch and event-driven processing of card network settlement and transaction data.

• Take ownership of and deliver projects that align with quarterly team objectives.

• Independently identify solutions to ambiguous and open-ended challenges.

• Develop, manage, and maintain card network transactions on a large scale.

• Generate digital wallet tokens through Apple Pay and Google Pay.

• Create backend experiences tailored for both internal and external customers.

• Oversee chargebacks and disputes involving card networks.

• Facilitate money transfers through ACH and ATM networks.

• Apply APRs and fees to credit customers effectively.

• Construct a 3DS Access Control System.

• Enhance the delivery of backend software from the ideation phase to production.

• Potentially focus on DevOps and infrastructure engineering, including aspects like cloud scaling, resilience, and global availability.

• Architect, design, and develop large-scale, complex projects.

• Collaborate with engineers to prioritize features and ensure timely delivery.

• Work in partnership with Product Managers to define scope and estimate project workloads.

• Participate in on-call coverage as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software or data engineering.

• Ability to drive outcomes with minimal supervision.

• A strong passion for writing high-quality code and ensuring test coverage.

• Experience with Java and/or Python programming languages.

• Proven experience in designing, building, and scaling batch and streaming/event-driven data pipelines.

• Familiarity with Apache Spark or distributed query engines like Athena, Trino, or Presto.

• Practical experience implementing data lake solutions using Iceberg or Delta Lake.

• Knowledge of ensuring data reliability, schema integrity, and integration with distributed query engines.

• Experience in making technical trade-offs and managing technical complexities.

• Mentorship experience with other engineers.

• Ability to diagnose root causes of production issues and implement effective improvements.

• Productive experience working on cross-functional teams.

• Background in the payments or FinTech industry is preferred.

• Experience with microservices architecture is preferred.

• Familiarity with Java Spring Boot is preferred.

• Experience with Airflow is preferred.

• Production experience with modern engineering and cloud tools is preferred.

• Knowledge of CI/CD, Kubernetes, and/or Docker is preferred.

• Contributions to technical blogs, public GitHub repositories, or open-source projects are preferred.
