Senior Software Engineer, Bet Engine

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, scale, and optimize GraphQL APIs, low-latency gRPC services, and SQL queries for various systems including sportsbook, casino, financial ledger, responsible gaming, tax, regulatory, promotional, and risk management.

• Take ownership of intricate technical challenges, develop proposals, and present them to leadership and partner teams.

• Architect and execute features from start to finish within an agile/scrum framework.

• Identify production bottlenecks and risks while driving improvements in scalability.

• Establish and enhance Datadog monitoring and alerting systems.

• Mentor engineers through specification reviews, coding partnerships, and code assessments.

• Collaborate with stakeholders across business domains to enhance products, operational efficiencies, and cost-saving measures.

• Integrate internal, third-party, legacy, and modern systems through data migrations, translations, and supporting infrastructure.

• Provide support for critical business operations including wagering, payouts, ledgers, data residency, and compliance systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.

• Strong grounding in computer science principles, including data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.

• Experience with production systems at scale, including load testing and tracing methodologies.

• Proven track record in diagnosing and resolving CPU, I/O, memory, and latency regressions in high-throughput services.

• Familiarity with on-call rotations and managing release cycles from start to finish.

• Experience in modern web frameworks and API development, such as Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, Fast API, Laravel, or Node.

• Over 2 years of experience in designing and evolving GraphQL schemas for iOS, Android, and web clients.

• Experience in building and integrating multi-client or white-label platforms, geo-based routing, and per-client configurations.

• In-depth knowledge of relational databases, with experience in PostgreSQL and MySQL.

• Experience working with Kubernetes and containerized environments.

• Proficiency with terminal tools, Git, and GitHub or similar platforms.

• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as ExUnit, RSpec, Jest, or pytest.

• Experience with background job processing tools like Oban, Exq, Sidekiq, Celery, or Beanstalk.

• Knowledge of asynchronous event handling infrastructure, such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub.

• Experience in developing financial, legal, and/or process accounting systems with a focus on correctness and auditability.

• Familiarity with agentic software development tools and workflows is a significant advantage.

• Understanding of relational database theory is a considerable asset.

• Experience with Elixir, hexagonal architecture, Domain Driven Development, contributions to open source, startups, or sports/esports is a plus.
